Weekend Wrap Up/Sunday Slurge

While most people were busy with Mother's Day outings this weekend, I was busy around the house.  My mom lives out of state so I sent her a gift.  While my mother in law is local, she was out of town this weekend so we'll be celebrating next week.  Since M was working all weekend, I ended up spending my days off catching up on laundry and dealing with a doggie disaster.

On Friday, our normally well-behaved pups decided that it would be a good idea to eat a bag of M's paintballs.  For anyone unfamiliar with paintball, it's a sport/game where people shoot each other with tiny balloons of paint.  It's pretty fun, albeit a little painful at times.  M loves it and tries to go about once a month.  Since he's goes pretty frequently, he buys paintballs in bulk and keeps a box full of bags of 500 paintballs in the laundry room.

There must have been something particularly appetizing about the paintballs on Friday because both of our boys got into them.  Between the two of them, they ate 500 paintballs.  500 paintballs!  I got home from work on Friday and there was greenish yellow paint everywhere.  It's a good thing we close them off so that they can only go in the den, the kitchen, the half bath, and the laundry room or else the entire house would have been covered in paint.

 The evidence.

Even though there was quite a mess, my first concern was their health.  The bag says that the paintballs can be toxic, even though they're water-based.  I called our vet and he told me what warning signs to look for and said to keep on eye on them because one way or another, that paint was going to get out of their system.  Well, about an hour after I got home, the vomiting started and it didn't stop for the rest of the evening.  Greenish yellow goo is all over our backyard right now just waiting to be washed away by a good rain.  Now if only there was the indoor equivalent of rain so I wouldn't have had to clean up inside...

Deacon covered in paint when I got home.

I did end up taking them to vet because they wouldn't eat, but after getting fluids and some kind of stomach medicine to absorb the chemicals, I'm happy to say they've made a full recovery.  All of my friends with kids say that after taking care of our dogs, kids will be a cinch.  I'm hoping they're right...

In honor of Mother's Day, Old Navy ran a 20% off deal online yesterday, and I took full advantage.  It put me way over my spending diet for the week but I decided to treat myself for Mother's Day.  I've clearly been a dedicated pup mom, I deserve it!  With several trips coming up, I had been eying a couple of different vacation-worthy items but I've been waiting for just the right time (ie when we've got extra cash).  Fortunately for me, that time came right when I needed some retail therapy.

Here's what I picked up:

Lightweight Camp Shirt, $24.94 ($19.95 with coupon code).  I know, I know, I just got a couple of gingham shirts from Aeropostale but I've been lusting after the yellow and it was 20% off.  Hopefully it fits well or it will be going back.

Printed Tank Dress, $29.94 ($23.95 with coupon code).   What's not to love about this dress?  Chevron strips?  Navy?  Amazing.  I just hope it fits.  This one is an online exclusive so I have no idea what to expect.  Fingers crossed!

Smocked-Gauze Mexicali Maxi Dress, $25 ($20 with coupon code).  I live in Florida and believe it or not, I only own one maxi dress.  Since I'm between 5'8" and 5'9", most long dresses hit me at an awkward spot well above the ankle.  Lucky for me, this dress is available in tall sizes.

Striped Racerback Tank Dress, $15 ($12 with coupon code).  I tried this dress on in the store last week and really liked it.  It's a bit short, but I plan to wear it around the house, at the pool or for quick errands.  Even at the full price it's a great deal so I couldn't pass it up with coupon code.

Grand total: $75.90.

Now that I think about it, I probably should have picked up a new pair of shorts or two.  Oh well, there will always be another ON sale and I'm not worried about shorts selling out.

  1. Oh my goodness, so glad to hear the pups are ok! What a disaster! That would have freaked me out. Sounds like you handled it much better than I would have.
